Chie was born in Japan and grew up in a seaside town in Chiba, about an hour from Tokyo. After graduating from high school and considering career options, her father, a Japan Self-Defence Force officer, said to her “if you know how to cut hair you will always have work” and advised her to learn a skill.
She studied at a cosmetology school and started work and training at a hair salon in Tokyo. There she realized how much she enjoyed using her skills and working with her clients. After years of working at the salon in Tokyo, Chie was overworked and tired and realized the importance of self-care.
She decided to take a break from work and went on her first overseas trip to Hawaii and fell in love with the Hawaiian islands.
After her trip Chie makes a big change with a move to the East Coast, pursuing her career in New Jersey. After years on the East Coast, she fulfills her dream of moving to Hawaii and settles in Oahu continuing her work while starting a family.
During the pandemic, Chie notices that many are tired, tense, and stressed and notices more clients with scalp and hair issues. She thought about how to help as a hairstylist and in 2022, opened Head Spa Tatsunosuke with a unique focus on offering the Japanese head spa treatment in addition to traditional hair salon services.
On her days off she enjoys surfing and relaxing by the ocean with her family. The salon’s name is a tribute to her grandfather Tatsunosuke who built a successful company that continues to this day in Saitama, Japan and she looks up to as a successful business owner.
Chie is a licensed cosmetologist in Hawaii, New Jersey, and Japan.
